Job Description

Sustainable and affordable energy is more important than ever. aWATTar is the first electricity supplier in Austria and Germany with a dynamic tariff that is priced on an hourly basis.

With our innovative electricity tariffs we create not only new saving opportunities for our customers but also more space for solar and wind power in the grid. We have been awarded the Greenstar(t) prize of the Austrian Climate Fund. The trend towards electric mobility and electric heat solutions (heat pumps) additionally fuel our growth.

Since the start of 2022 we are a subsidiary of tado, one of the leading smart energy companies in Europe.

Your daily business will involve:
  • Break down a higher-level business requirement (e.g. introduction of the AT Strompreisbremse) and consider its impact on the existing logic of our custom energy billing amp; CRM system.
  • Implement the required changes in TypeScript, using NodeJS, FeatherJS, Kubernetes, and PostgreSQL in the backend and TypeScript and Angular in the internal frontend.
  • Get your change reviewed, test the corner cases you figured out on our staging system and deploy it to production.
  • Have an open ear for problems and reports of our operations / customer support team to understand closely what bothers our customers.
  • Plan and implement improvements to our development process and technical infrastructure, taking into account the business priorities and context.
  • Integrate external services and provide APIs used by other services (e.g. of tado).
  • Design, implement and test new product features and services to optimize the use of green energy for our fast growing customer base.

Requirements

  • You are conscientious, used to taking initiative over receiving directions, and can manage your time and focus.
  • You are very strong in explaining complex topics in English, appropriately tailoring your delivery according to your audience.
  • You actively search for opportunities to improve yourself, the working process, your team collaboration, and feedback mechanisms.
  • You have an interest in energy markets, its participants and processes, with prior experience being a valuable plus.
  • You can reach our Vienna office within about 4 hours of travel time.
  • Being able to read German documentation is a valuable plus since many terms of the AT amp; DE energy markets are in German.
  • You have extensive technical expertise in both backend and frontend development at a Mid/Senior level.
  • If required, you can independently find your way through an unfamiliar code- and database.
  • You have a track record of introducing incremental changes to production systems effectively.
  • You worked for 5 years in software development or adjacent roles.

Benefits

  • Become part of our mission to integrate more solar and wind power into the grid and thereby fight climate change and security of energy supply in Europe.
  • Deeply understand what happens so that solar rays and the wind blowing end up pushing electrons to power your toaster at home.
  • Be in touch with our engaged and excited customers. 25% of our new customers come through word of mouth!
  • Have a say in what we do and how we do things in our small team in a lean startup environment. Own your task end-to-end.
  • If you live in Vienna, join us in our central office close to the U-Bahn U3 Zieglergasse and socialize with the start-up scene at Impact Hub Vienna.
  • Balance private life arrangements with the needs of your team through flexibility in your working hours. Be available for your colleagues in general between 9am and 5pm.
  • Work from home, while still meeting us in person every few weeks. We value flexibility, so we will decide together if and when in-person meetings are beneficial. We cover your travel expenses.
  • Recharge your batteries with 25 days of paid vacation per year.

tado/ aWATTar is an equal opportunity employer and we are striving for a diverse workforce. Thus, we recruit talented individuals based solely on their competencies and skills, without any regard to their race, ethnicity, sex, sexual orientation, religion, belief, disability, or age.
